- - The effects of iodine on intelligence in children: a meta-analysis of studies conducted in China (2005)

--WHO - Iodine deficiency is the main cause of brain damage in childhood. It results in impaired cognitive and motor development which affects a child’s performance at school. In adulthood, it affects productivity and the ability to find a job. Iodine-deficient people may forfeit 15 IQ points. The latest global estimate is that 1.88 billion people have insufficient dietary iodine intake.

- - A large study dating from 2013 found that about two-thirds of controlled pregnant womens had mild iodine deficiency, and that the children of those with the lowest levels had the lowest IQs. (2)

Breasts

- - The protective effects of iodine on breast cancer have been postulated from epidemiologic evidence and described in animal models. The molecular mechanisms responsible have not been identified but laboratory evidence suggests that iodine may inhibit cancer promotion (2008)
